A Queensland man who sold the personal data of players of popular online video game League of Legends has been sentenced and granted immediate parole.

Shane Stephen Duffy, 23, pleaded guilty to fraud and computer hacking involving US company Riot Games — the developer of League of Legends.

Judge Tony Moynihan described the offending, which took place between May 2013 and March 2014, as "very serious".

Prosecutor Joshua Hanna told Brisbane's District Court a cyber attack on Riot Games in 2011 saw hackers obtained the details of more than 5 million users.

He said Duffy was not responsible, but he got a copy of the data online and used it to make a profit.

The court heard Duffy operated a business of selling access to the accounts of other League of Legends players.

"You achieved this by exploiting other confidential data belonging to Riot Games that was in your unauthorised possession," Judge Moynihan said.

Duffy made 194 transactions in the order of $32,000.

The court heard Duffy also hacked into the Twitter account of Riot Games president Marc Merrill to publicise his business and teamed up with an online associate to disconnect players.

Duffy sent threatening emails to the company, which suffered a loss in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

"This type of crime potentially affects many people, can cause great loss and is difficult to detect, investigate or prosecute," Judge Moynihan said

"Your offending was sophisticated, committed over a lengthy period of time."

Defence lawyer Patrick Wilson told the court Duffy has autism and struggled as a child.

The court heard following the shock death of Duffy's father in 2008 he became reclusive and obese, spending much of his time on computer games inside the house.

He had limited formal education from Grade 4 when he started home schooling.

"He's mother was fearful of having him medicated," Mr Wilson said.

He told the court his client's condition meant he was unable to comprehend the consequences of his actions.

"He is an offender who has less moral culpability," Mr Wilson said.

Duffy's family sobbed in court as Judge Moynihan sentenced him to two-and-a-half-years in jail, with immediate parole.

He was also handed an 18-month suspended jail term for Commonwealth offences and placed on a two-and-a-half-year good behaviour bond.

The court heard Duffy has been medicated and is socialising in more appropriate ways following his arrest.

10 Top Sexiest League of Legends Skins

One of the largest games in the world, League of Legends is no stranger to well-done character creation and character appearance. As a Free To Play game, though, Riot Games, the game's creator, needed a way to recoup their costs and make it a truly profitable game. Enter the idea of skins. Just like many other Free to Play games, players can purchase new champion outfits (also known as skins) to customize their champion in a new way. As over 90% of League of Legends players are male, it may come as no surprise that many of the female champion skins are pretty easy on the eyes. Short skirts, bare stomachs, and long legs are the par for many of the available female champion skins. Not all sexy skins are created equal, though. Here at some of the 10 Top Sexiest League of Legends skins. Some are still available for purchase while others will just have to be something you lust over. Click Here to Continue
