There isn’t much information available regarding the Mars Dota 2 League 2017. The eight teams have been revealed, so this article will take two teams and explain their playing form heading in. Things that we do know about the Mars Dota 2 League: it’s organized by Mars Media; all matches will be played offline at the Optics Valley International Tennis Center in China; the tournament lasts five days (July 5-9th, 2017).
When considering each team’s playing form, I’m only looking at the last four weeks of professional play.

Newbee: in form
Newbee has steadily improved after their dead last finish that the Kiev Major. They look like a different squad from the one we watched get reverse-swept by Team Liquid. Though Newbee missed EPICENTER and the Dota Summit 7 with 5-6th Place finishes in those qualifiers, something has changed. They’re gelling better and the consistency is up. Newbee‘s last three events have led to finals appearances.
OG: out of form
Everyone talks OG up (normally for good reason); however, I’d be lying if I told you I’m confident in them these days. Unlike Newbee, OG has been on a down trend since the Kiev Major. Given, they placed first. It’s tough to bring that level of consistent play to the table every tournament. OG won two $1,000,000 tournaments in a span of four months. The Kiev Major champions missed the Top 4 of their last two events. To make matters worse, they missed the EPICENTER playoffs altogether. Winning three games and losing six doesn’t get the job done. Highlights are below.
Thanks a lot for reading, make sure you check out part 2 for Evil Geniuses and Invictus Gaming. Reach out on Twitter and share any thoughts you have. I reply to all tweets sent my way.
